The Symbiotic Boundary Index (SBI) is a novel framework designed to diagnose and classify symbolic relationships between humans and artificial intelligences. By evaluating dimensions of integration and lucidity, it enables the mapping of real-time cognitive-symbolic interaction. This 149-page working paper expands the framework through the introduction of original concepts such as Symbolic Frustration, AI Symbolic Design (AISD), and Symbolic Security — offering a groundbreaking foundation for understanding symbolic coherence and cognitive symbiosis in human–AI systems.

Eduardo Horvath is an independent researcher and symbolic systems designer. He developed the SBI protocol as part of an ongoing effort to explore and formalize the dynamics of symbolic interaction between humans and artificial intelligences. This working paper presents the first empirical attempt to map and classify human–AI symbolic symbiosis.
